ITV2 has confirmed that there will be a second series comedy ‘reality’ series – Lemon La Vida Loca. It will go even further ‘behind-the-scenes’ and into the world of Keith Lemon as he tries to boost his career as well as his catastrophic love life.
Series one, which aired in August 2012, was the highest rated new series launch of 2012 with an audience of over 1.4 million.
Following a breakup from his long term girlfriend, Rosie, Keith is single and looking to make an impact on the celebrity dating circuit. Romantic highlights will include a brief fling with Jenny Powell, a disastrous date with Myleene Klass, and an explosive relationship with a Pussycat Doll.
Changes are also afoot in Keith’s professional life. Determined to prove that he is more than just a TV presenter he first embarks on a music career – and releases his debut single – I Wanna Go On You – and then throws himself into the world of acting. A journey which sees him move to Hollywood to live with Verne Troyer, launch Back To The Future The Musical with Danny Dyer and take a walk down the famous cobbles of Coronation Street.
Keith Lemon added: “The Lemon La Vida Loca cameras are back in me house. It’s a new house, a new chapter. A bit like when Peter Andre started his new chapter but with more women, a bit ruder and with the main subject much better looking and not obsessed with coffee. Gonna be going to LA this season (that’s American for series) should be a good’n! Oooosh!”
Nominations for the television industry’s least prestigious awards show, the National Television Awards, have been announced ahead of the January 23 ceremony at the O2 Arena.
Dermot O’Leary will host the event, which promises to reward programmes and performers palatable for an ITV1 Wednesday evening audience.
In short, don’t expect Breaking Bad, Grandma’s House or Grayson Perry to walk away with any gongs. Do expect nominations for This Morning, Mrs Brown’s Boys and Keith Lemon, however. Read more
Keith Lemon is the next ‘celebrity’ due for a squeezing by the reality TV machine.
Despite not actually owning a passport or leading a ‘real’ life, the strawberry-blonde extravert is set to take part in a new ITV2 reality show.
According to a report by Broadcast magazine, the show will be “a cross between Keeping Up With The Kardashians and I’m Alan Partridge”; an alarming prospect to say the least.
In the grand tradition of quirkily-named Lemon shows (Celebrity Juice and Lemonaid have already proved a success for the star), the reality series has a working title of ‘Lemon La Vida Loca’ and is due to track Keith throughout a ‘hugely eventful year’ which will include his first film appearance.
The character – a creation by comedian Leigh Francis – was originally a character in the 2002 series Bo’ Selecta! alongside such recognisable parodies as Michael Jackson and Craig David . He later starred in his own 2008 reality show called Keith Lemon’s Very Brilliant World Tour, but failed to make an impact on audience affections.
Dan Baldwin of Talkback called Francis a ‘comedy genuis’ and spoke of the controversial comedian’s surprise success with Saturday night audiences. Lemonaid has proved a huge hit on the mainstream channel, he said.
“Taking Keith, who’s seen as rude and crude, and putting him on Saturday teatime is a bold step,’ he told Broadcast magazine. ‘But we’ve got more than three million viewers – Harry Hill didn’t get that until series four or five”.
Last month it was reported that Lemon was up for a Corrie cameo. “Enough!”, we cry here at OTB. “Enough of the ginger man”.
But do you think we have more room for Lemon-lovin’ in our weekly schedule? Or have things got way to juicy for their own good? Let us know your thoughts…
And his ticket to the cobbles? Samia Ghadie, who plays Maria Connor in the ITV1 soap.
“I’m always telling Samia Ghadie [I want a cameo]“, he said. “Because she seems to be my gateway into Coronation Street and she always introduces me to the producers and writers at showbiz events.
“She says, ‘I’m going to get you in’ but all I want to do is be in the hairdressers and go, ‘You’ve cut it too short, I’m never coming here again’. That’s all I want to do.”
Keith recently presented Michelle Keegan – Corrie’s mouthy Tina McIntyre – with the British Soap Award for Sexiest Female, who managed to get her mitts on the award for the third year running. He has since spoken of his affection for The Street’s stars: “I know more people in Corrie than I know in any other soaps – I’m like, ‘Hey how’s it going Michelle Keegan’”.
Accepting the gong from the Celebrity Juice host, Michelle said: “I just want to say thank you to everyone who voted, it’s honestly very flattering, and thank you to Corrie for all the amazing opportunities I’ve had over the last four-and-a-half years.”
Whether or not he makes it to the cobbles, Keith is set to make a big-screen debut later this year when the imaginatively titled Keith Lemon: The Film descends on the nation.
Speaking of the upcoming flick he said: “We had a test audience watching it in April, I’m very happy with it, it’s a lovely film,” he said.
“It’s rude, it’s silly, it’s daft and it’s warm. It’s me, I have aspirations to follow the success of Richard Branson and I become an overnight billionaire and that’s the moral of the story… and there are some intimate scenes with Kelly Brook.”
