Stewart Lee To Make TV Return With ‘Alternative Comedy Experience’
Perhaps begrudgingly taking inspiration from Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, The Alternative Comedy Experience will see our favourite dead pan comic hosting 12 episodes, all highlighting Britain’s lesser known comedy talent.
Intended as a “Showcase, The Alternative Comedy Experience will feature both stand up and sketches, as well as interviews with the comedians, giving the audience a greater insight into the side of comedy one can expect from comedy clubs and festivals, rather than in the Wembley Arena or on panel shows à la Michael McIntyre.
With filming scheduled to occur at Edinburgh’s The Stand comedy club during July, a line up of acts has yet to be announced, however, it’s reported that names such as Robin Ince, Simon Munnery, Maeve Higgins and Phil Nicol will appear in the series.
Airing on Comedy Central later this year, it should be a hit with those that would like to see alternative comedy live, but prefer to stay at home in fear of getting mauled after accidentally admitting that they like Ben Elton.
