Lark Rise Axed Because Of Producer’s Departure

BBC bosses have said that the reason Lark Rise to Candleford has been cancelled is that the ‘creative energy’ provided by writer and producer Bill Gallagher had gone with his decision to leave the show.

Ben Stephenson, the BBC’s controller of drama commissioning said, “I can’t stress enough how important Bill Gallagher was to the creative energy and drive of Lark Rise. With Bill moving on and after an impressive run of 4 series, 40 episodes in total, we therefore felt this was a natural point to bring it to an end.?

“It would have been very difficult to carry on whilst retaining all the elements of the series that people love, without his involvement.?

But there is a growing internet campaign to save the series, and there is even a group of fans in America who want to see Lark Rise continue. They have pointed out that the show has been attracting more viewers in the last series – over seven million – than previous series. However, it seems unlikely that the BBC will reverse their decision, as the people in charge seem certain that the show cannot continue.

There’s nothing like cancelling a successful show, what next from the brains at the BBC? Maybe they’ll bring back past ‘hits’ like Being April or Nice Guy Eddie in an attempt to fill the slot.
