We never imagined that Big Brother would retire with much dignity, but we did at least expect that TV bosses might allow the old show to hang up its cctv equipment without being forced to do one last rather pointless tribute performance. Not so.

It has emerged that former Big Brother stars will be rounded up to go into the house for one last time at the end of BB11, to decide who upon an ultimate champion.

This year’s winner will immediately be joined by about a dozen former housemates – some from celebrity BB and not all of them BB winners – for a two week show which will see who is “the best of the best”.

This Champions League version of the reality show is already rumoured to include previous winners Nadia Almada and Brain Dowling.

“It’s a bittersweet moment with Big Brother ending, but the Ultimate Champion will ensure we end on a high,” show boss Phil Edgar-Jones told The Sun

“As well as finding fans’ favourite housemate, it will also be a trip down memory lane as they discuss experiences in the house. It will be a nostalgic treat for people who love the show and remind us why it was so great.”

Phil said he had not approached any stars yet – but would start calling tomorrow. “Some old faces have been asking for weeks if we’re bringing them back, saying they want in. Billi Bhatti and Nikki Grahame have both been asking.”
