National Movie Awards Preview: Star Studded
NATIONAL MOVIE AWARDS: Wednesday 26th May, ITV1, 8pm ALERT ME
The National Movie Awards airs tonight on ITV 1 and is set to dazzle and shine as all our favourite stars don their best clobber for the red ITV carpet. A show that very much heralds the bums on seats aspect of cinema goers, results will reflect the movies that you, the viewer, voted for.
Big titles that will be fiercely battled for include ‘most popular Fantasy Movie’ which sees Twilight: New Moon going head to head with the massive Avatar, along with ‘performance of the year’ where Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner are each shortlisted – as are Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
Set in the Royal Festival Hall, James Nesbitt heads the new 2010 show which has a new award to welcome: ‘the Most Anticipated Must-See Summer Movie’. Indeed, a rather bizarre hypothetical award, but the third installment in the Twilight saga, Eclipse is a nominee for it as well as Sex and the City 2 and the remake of The A-Team. All would love to win, I’m sure – but our money’s on Twilight.
As well as most popular fantasy movie, Avatar has actors Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana gunning for performances of the year, as are Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law for Sherlock Holmes.
Because of the stipulations for rewards, you can expect big films with perhaps less artistic integrity to do well this eve – and this means crowd favourites Harry Potter and Avatar are sure to mop up. Make sure you tune in, however, to catch every acceptance speech and ‘I’m happy for you’ rejection face.
