Despite a thoroughly well-loved stint as Inspector Frost, David Jason will always primarily be remembered as the wheeling dealing CEO of Trotters Independent Traders and he will be getting his cock-er-ney twang going again in his next major piece of work.

This time the actor who brought us Del Boy will be playing an ex-docker in a credit-crunch drama. Come Rain Come Shine is the story of Don a working-class bloke who prefers the quiet life with his wife Dora, to be played by Alison Steadman.

Don’s son is the opposite however, paying for flash cars and expensive nights on credit until his spending catches up with him and the whole family faces financial ruin.

“The film is basically a modern tale of how superficial life can be if you chase credit with no means to pay and no back up plan,” said a show source. Apparently ITV had to work very hard to persuade Jason to play another cockney.

“For obvious reasons Sir David has been nervous of playing Cockney characters,” producer Jeff Pope told The Sun. “But he felt the chance to say something about the kind of reckless reliance on credit, that has almost brought us to our knees, was too good to miss.”

Come Rain Come Shine will start filming next month and is due to air next year.
