Widely recognised as one of the finest examples of modern television, The Wire is watched worldwide by millions of people. However, what was once a television programme could now become the core of University study.

The University of York has especially tailored a 10 week module on the U.S drama as part of a sociology degree.

Head of Sociology, Professor Roger Burrows said, “It’s a contrast to dry, dull, hugely expensive studies that people carry out on the same issues.? These issues dealt with in the hit TV show are race, class and politics – all explored through the trials and tribulations of drug dealers and police officers in Baltimore.

“It’s easier to get students to use The Wire as a way of looking at the current political system than it is to get them to read a dull book on it,? added Professor Burrows.

Don’t know about you, but we’re inclined to agree.
