TRUE BLOOD SERIES 2 FINALE: Friday 14th May, FX, 10pm ALERT ME

The wonderfully confusing and horny hit series comes to the end of its second series this evening on FXUK and there is only one question on the lips of those peopel who understand what the hell is going on in Bon Temps and beyond. Can handsome vampire Bill defeat the genuinely creepy and oversexed Greek myth Maryann?

Fans will be pleased to know that they get their answer rather quicker than they might have expected, which leaves the writers plenty of time to tie up all the lose ends in a climactic bonanza of the semi-naked supernatural beings.

This really is outlandish stuff and and times it starts to resemble a porn version of The Wicker Man – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing when you think about it. This final chapter works well as an episode and successully brings the show full circle, but the cliff-hanger is pretty underwhelming.

Nevertheless, a strange structure allows for an especially clever script, “..I hear Maryann was planted here as an agent for the Liberal media” drawls one woman in the the bar. As such, True Blood is certainly inventive enough to maintain its popularity into a third series, unlike the rapidly-sinking Heroes.
