Coronation Street has added to Britain’s escalating unemployment woes by axing two of its stars just a fortnight after relieving their budget of three other salaries. Phil Collinson – who recently took over the reigns as the popular soap’s producer – decided to give Molly Dobbs and Trevor Dean their marching orders surprising fans and fellow cast members.

Weatherfield will wave goodbye to Vicky Binns once her turbulent love life finally comes to its conclusion. Binns – whose character Molly has been at the centre of a dramatic triangle d’amour – spoke about the end of her five year tenure on the show expressing excitement about what the writers plan to do with her. The star said : “It’s been a joy to be involved in such a fantastic storyline…I am very excited about playing out the rest of this plot and about what the future holds.?

Insiders working on the show expressed concern over the radical decision to axe five stars in the matter of a couple of weeks : “Everyone is wondering if any more big names will go…five stars in a fortnight is some going?.
