Grey’s Anatomy Review: Go Fourth
GREY’S ANATOMY: Friday 16th April, Five, 10pm ALERT ME
This may be the fourth series, but Grey’s Anatomy is making its debut on terrestrial TV tonight. For newbies, welcome to a show of outlandish dialogue, gushing indie ballads and star-crossed romances. Sometimes they also get around to helping the patients as well…
In this season opener, there’s a new batch of interns at Seattle Grace Hospital getting in the way and asking stupid questions, much to the frustration of the residents. Predictably enough though, one of them has a juicy little secret for Dr Meredith.
Grey’s Anatomy has never pretended to be high-brow, but fans will be delighted with this return. With its blend of gentle humour, melodrama and romance, this is comfort viewing at its finest.
Incidentally, Meredith, Cristina, Izzie and Alex have all been promoted while George, having failed his exams, must repeat a year. Callie, who has been appointed Chief Resident must face the resentful Bailey who feels the position should have been hers. Fans should also keep an eye on the newbies, a couple of them will be making a bigger impact in later episodes.
It’s schmaltzy and over-emotional but the acting is good, the characters likeable and the writers are very much in their groove. If you count yourself a fan of show then this season starter is the perfect antidote to the stresses of the working week.
