BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT: Saturday April 17th, ITV1, 8pm ALERT ME

Playing it fast and loose with the word ‘talent’, ITV and Simon Cowell are exploding back on to the saturday night TV landscape tonight with the opening episode of Britain’s Got Talent 2010 (forever hereafter referred to as BGT).

As you can see from this remarkable image, we are not short of acts which will have you loling until you are rofling (ask a teenager) in these opening shows. Dancing Horses, pigs on trampolines and a regurgitator? We certainly understand why the hilarious audition process lasts for nearly a month – there certainly are a lot of loons in the country!

But it can’t all be fun, games and trumpet playing parrots, remember the whole point of these trials is to uncover the people who might actually have a chance of winning this competition in a few months time. Few BGT fans will forget Paul Potts spine-tingling first audition or the debut of SuBo, and everyone will be hoping for another startling entrance which reminds us why this is inherently such a fantastic format.

As such it will be the job of Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden (a worthy judge of talent if ever there was one) to seperate the deluded fools from the brilliant singers who just need a bit of a makeover. Only forty acts can make it through to the live shows and eventually we’ll get to vote for our favourite in the grand final (which nearly 19 million people tuned in for last year!)
