Ridley Scott To Produce Pompeii Miniseries
Variety reports that the project will consist of four hour-long episodes produced by Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free Television for Sony.
The novel follows a young Roman engineer who finds himself outrunning the Vesuvias eruption. In the mix also are politics and romance which should make for a jam packed miniseries.
Roman Polanski was originally going to helm the project but WGA strikes stood in the way and ultimately delayed a deal.
“Pompeii is a strong and compelling character drama set against a backdrop of a flourishing but ultimately doomed civilization – exactly what makes great event television,” said Scott of the project.
Helen Verno of Sony said, “The story unfolds as both a love story and a thriller, with the historical, apocalyptic backdrop of a city on the precipice of destruction and characters who are totally relatable to a contemporary audience.”
