BBC bosses have revealed that this Easter’s new series of Doctor Who will be preceded by a national tour showcasing the first episode.

New stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan will also be travelling around the UK in a ‘Doctor Who tour-bus’ to meet fans of the long-running cult series.

The tour will be starting in Belfast on 29th March, before hitting Inverness, Sunderland, Salford and then Northampton (Matt Smith’s home-town) over the next couple of days.

At each location, a special premiere of the first episode of the new series Eleventh Hour will be shown to local children and members of the public will get a chance to meet the show’s stars.

The BBC have described the tour as an excellentr way of “targeting hard to reach and relatively under-served communities by the BBC”. Following the tour, from 1 April until 3 April, the BBC will also hold events for three days at selected BBC Big Screens across the UK giving Doctor Who fans in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Plymouth and Swansea the chance to interact directly with the show in their home towns.

Piers Wenger, Executive Producer and Head of Drama, BBC Wales said: “This is a great opportunity for the new Doctor and his Companion to interface directly with the people who matter most to Doctor Who: the fans. The chance to visit them in their hometowns will ensure that the Eleventh Doctor’s maiden voyage is an utterly magical one.?
