Dancing On Ice: Jason Apologises For ‘Faecal’ Comment
The Aussie choreographer likened the former Olympic swimmer to a poo on Sunday night – sparking a flood of complaints from viewers.
After Sharron had taken to the ice in a brown leotard Gardiner said her performance was “like watching a faecal matter that won’t flush, that goes around and around but doesn’t go anywhere.”
TV bosses felt he went too far and the acid-tongued judge issued an apology. In a statement, Gardiner said: “On last night’s Dancing On Ice I was critiquing the performance of Sharron Davies and made some comments which may have caused offence to her and the viewers. For this I’m sorry and would like to apologise.”
The controversy became a key talking point on Twitter yesterday, his name among the top ten most Tweeted about. Fans branded Gardiner “a bully” and called for him to be sacked from the hit ITV show.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s wife Tana, who was eliminated from Sunday’s show, accused Gardiner of being too “personal”.
In a This Morning interview she said: “Some things he says are very personal and there’s no need for that. He says these things to help himself, not anybody else. When you’re putting yourself on the line it’s hard to take and can shatter your confidence.
“You don’t need to be brought down like that when it’s not constructive.”
Ten contestants remain in the competition with actress Hayley Tamaddon currently topping the score board.
