The National Television Awards: Gong Drinking
THE NATIONAL TELEVISION AWARDS: Wednesday 20th January, ITV1, 7.30pm ALERT ME
The champagne has been iced, Amy Winehouse has been distracted and Ant & Dec have penned their acceptance speeches – at last we are ready for the National Television Awards.
What’s that? You didn’t know they were on? Well put down that box-set of The Wire and pay attention. They may not be the Oscars but as Homer Simpson once discovered, they are certainly more prestigious than the rubbish Grammys.
You newbies might be interested to know that Dermot O’Leary is presenting for the first time this year and he will probably need all the skills he has gained while presenting the X Factor for the last couple of years. If any man can control a bunch of ego-tripping mirror junkies, it is he.
You thought we were joking about Ant & Dec, but in fact they are up for three awards, and in the best entertainment programme they have even been nominated twice for Saturday Night Takeaway and I’m A Celebrity… respectively.
We don’t really mind that though because we quite like the Geordie duo – it was the jungle contestants that annoyed us.
Meanwhile Davids Tennant, Threlfall and Jason will be battling it out for best drama performance with Phillip Glenister (that moody bloke from Life On Mars), and thanks to their legions of fans the soaps have managed to gatecrash several categories.
We just can’t wait for the most prize (usually bestowed by the tabloids the following morning) for the celebrity who got hammered and made the biggest fool of themselves.
