joseph-mcelderrySyco and Sony Music have a price war on their hands as Amazon and Tesco are offering winning song, ‘The Climb’ for just 29p.

Nearest rival Play.com is charging 67p. X Factor bosses. are plugging 7digital.com where it is 99p. And CD singles are expected to cost £3.99 when they go on sale on Wednesday.

The cheap downloads are bad news for Simon Cowell – those which sell for less than 40p don’t count in the pop charts.

As lyrics to ‘The Climb’ say, ‘Always gonna be a uphill battle, sometimes I’m gonna have to lose.’ Are you listening, Simon? No, er, okay.
