simon cowellTough-talking, trouser-hiking, hand-waxing media mogul Simon Cowell has threatened to scrap the X Factor unless ITV bosses hand over another £3million.

Cowell refused to sign another deal unless bosses agree to the extra budget to make next year’s show “even better?.

This weekend’s X Factor final is expected to reach 20 million viewers, which would only strengthen his case for increased funds.

At a press conference, Cowell stated, “We always said we’d stop making the show when people don’t want to it?

“But it’s been very successful because ITV have invested a lot into it to make it better.

“I think there is genuine interested from the people behind the show to bring it back – bit we do, it needs to be better than this year.

He went on to say that higher ratings have been down to the change in the X Factor’s format, including auditions in front of a live audience and the introduction of a new £1million stage.

He wants an extra £300,000 per show spent over 10 shows on next year’s programme and is considering moving it to an even larger venue such as London’s O2 Arena.

Cowell is still negotiating the terms of his £7.5 million contract with ITV and has said that he wanted popstar judge Cheryl Cole to return but said that she would need more than her current £1.2 million salary.
