magsThe entire Coronation Street cast gave five minutes of spontaneous applause in memory of actress Maggie Jones yesterday.

The 75-year-old actress, who played Blanche Hunt in the ITV soap, passed away yesterday morning and in her memory the soap’s cast stopped filming for the day.

Bill Roache, who played Maggie’s ‘love-rat’ son-in-law Ken Barlow, said Jones was a “brilliant actress” and “as mentally sharp as someone half her age.”

Katherine Kelly, Becky McDonald in the soap, said she felt “blessed” to have known the actress, and Tupele Dorgu (Kelly Crabtree) said even through her illness, she “always had a kind word for people”.

Jones won ‘Funniest Performance’ at the Inside Soap Awards this year.

She said: “Everyone knows someone like Blanche – or if they don’t, they wish they did”.

She could certainly give Alan Carr a run for his money…

RIP Maggie, who sadly died before we could honour her with a prestigious OTB soap award ™…
