In 2005 and 2008, Jones won the British Soap Award for ‘Best Comedy Performance’ for her role on the ITV1 soap.

Jones was in hospital earlier this month after a fall in which she hurt her shoulder and knee and was said to be in a critical condition.

The street won’t be the same without her barbed tongue and snappy put downs.

will be sadly missed her caustic wit always made me laught a touch of blue sky in a grey day

Clare says:

Blanche was undoubtedly my favourite character in Corrie; her sharp wit and delightfully blunt points of view brought about the majority of highlights in most episodes. Throughout this difficult year in particular, Maggie never failed to raise the smiles of viewers. We will always have fond memories of her heart-warming performances.
