Barbara Windsor To Leave EastEnders
Call us optimistic, but we’re hoping that the well-loved landlady leaves in a storyline worthy of a character that has never been far from controversy.
Maybe – like former barrow-boy Alan Sugar – she will be given a peerage by a flagging Labour government…
This is all merely conjecture however, because at this stage, bosses are keeping tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding her exit.
The 72 year-old has been in charge of the Vic since she joined the cast in 1994 (with a break here and there).
“EastEnders has been wonderful to me and it’s no secret that it changed my life all of those years ago”, she said.
“I’ll be so sad to leave Peggy behind; she’s such a wonderful character to play. I have had the pleasure of working with a marvellous cast and crew and have made many lasting good friends”.
BBC’s controller of drama John Yorke added: “To most of the British public, Barbara IS EastEnders and it’s almost impossible to imagine Albert Square without her”.
