Kanye West Causes Awards Show Contoversy… Again

Last night at MTV’s annual Video Music Awards Kanye West, the tinker that he is, mounted the stage to interrupt Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video.

She had beat out favourite Beyonce for “Single Ladies?, a video West claimed was “one of the best videos of all time?.

His outburst was met by an eruption of boos from the audience, and Beyonce herself looked fairly embarrassed (if a little smug). One woman in the crowd yelled “He’s finished?.

West never directly attacked Swift however, and later apologised on his blog, writing: “I’M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD’VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED!”

Swift got her justice somewhat as Beyonce picked up her award for Video of the Year, inviting her back up to the stage to finish her acceptance speech.

This isn’t the first time Kanye West has thrown all of his toys out of the pram at an awards ceremony. In 2006’s MTV Europe awards he stormed the stage to air his displeasure at losing the Best Video Award to Justice and Simian for their “We Are You Friends?.
