Strictly And X Factor Go Head-To-Head
It’s Saturday night, you’re due a long lazy evening in front of the tellybox, excited about the clutch of talent show delights the evening has laid before you. But no, what’s this?
The BBC has decided to schedule their flagship talent show Strictly Come Dancing at at the same time as ITV’s X Factor? What a nightmare.
The two shows in previous years have aired with little or no overlap in broadcast time, so fans could watch both programmes without having to choose.
However, the latest series of Strictly, which debuts next Friday (18th September) has been scheduled to air on Saturday night between 7:25pm and 9:05pm, pitting it almost directly against X Factor’s slot of 8pm to 9:15pm.
“It is disappointing that they are effectively splitting the audience – both shows have previously been pretty much complementary,” said an ITV source. “Given that millions of people enjoy both shows this seems to be a very aggressive and competitive scheduling decision.”
The BBC argues that because Strictly has dropped its Saturday night show, while X Factor are to launch one, viewers have more choice this year.
A spokesman said: “Strictly and X Factor have successfully co-existed on Saturday night for many years,” said a BBC spokesman. “This year is no different. There is even more choice for viewers with Strictly launching on Friday and with an X Factor results show on Sunday.”
Our money’s on X Factor in this almighty clash of the TV titans.
