British film luvvie Richard Curtis will put pen to paper for the new series of Dr. Who.

The writer and director of Love Actually and The Vicar of Dibley will try his hand at sci fi for at least one episode of the new season which will see Matt Smith take over the role of the good Doctor.

Though it’s unlikely, fans are already wondering if Curtis’ most famous creation will make an appearance. After Curtis described the plot as “There will be a monster. And a famous historical figure will battle the monster,” there’s been a buzz about the potential return of Sir Edmund Blackadder.

But we doubt it.

Curtis is practically giddy at the thought of being on the Who writing staff and said “It’s tremendously good fun and a treat for my children.

“These days the things you can watch together as a family are much fewer so when you get something like Doctor Who or The X Factor it is such a pleasure to sit down as a family.”
