Production on the new series of Doctor Who began today, with Matt Smith playing the eleventh Doctor.

Upon arriving on set in Cardiff, Smith (of Party Animals fame) commented:

“I feel very privileged and proud to be part of this iconic show. The scripts are brilliant and working alongside Karen, Steven and the rest of the crew is an inspiration because their work ethic and passion for the show is so admirable. I’m excited about the future and all the brilliant adventures I get to go on as the Doctor.?

Episode one will see the Doctor meeting his assistant for the first time, Amy Pond, played by Scottish actress Karen Gillan, who has previously appeared in The Kevin Bishop Show.

Steven Moffat, who wrote the terrifyingly brilliant BAFTA-winning episode Blink, as well as other Who episodes, has developed the series and as Lead Writer and Executive Producer will be responsible for the creative direction of the show.

Pre-pubescent Doctor aside, the series, due to air next Spring, looks to be a very exciting one.
