Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips has been sacked, according to The Sun.

The choreographer was asked to leave the show by BBC bosses last night with former winner Alesha Dixon likely to be her replacement.

Phillips has been a judge on Strictly since it started in 2004 but was criticised for savaging John Sergeant’s lacklustre performances.

A source said “The bosses want to bring in younger viewers – the 16 to 34 year-olds that X-Factor mops up” adding that former Mis-Teeq singer Dixon would be “perfect” for the role.

Dixon’s popularity soared after winning the show in 2007 from former Eastender Matt Di Angelo.

The source went on: “Nothing has been signed, but bosses really want Alesha as she has everything they’re looking for.

“She also knows a thing or two about dancing. Strictly can feel a bit old fashioned.?

The revamp is a response to the success of the US show which draws 20 million viewers. Apparently the BBC want raunchier routines in the new series which starts in the autumn, once again going to head to head in the ratings stakes with X-Factor.
