ITV bosses in (This) Mourning
If there be terrestial celestials sitting up high, then the Recession is at hand and Televisual Armageddon is nigh.
ITV has announced that due to the ‘current economic climate’ (say it fast – anyone else think that sounds just a little like Necronomicon?!), it’s cutting 600 employees and will have to make cut-backs on the seemingly endless stream of day-time trash currently flooding our airways.
The Samaritans have announced they are to set up a ‘Student and Housewife Hotline’ to cope with the overwhelming demand.
ITV’s plans to cut £65m from its budget this year and a further £70m by 2011, will see a number of its leading daytime brands – including Loose Women, The Alan Titchmarsh Show, Jeremy Kyle and This Morning – starved of funding.
If only, in the Jeremy Kyle Show’s case, it could’ve been air.
