Nicolette Sheridan leaves Desperate Housewives
Man-eating gold digger Edie Britt is leaving Desperate Housewives. After five years of bitching and backstabbing, the character is being retired as the actress who plays her, Nicolette Sheridan, has decided to move on. As one of the founding housewives on the ABC/Channel 4 show, Sheridan has sometimes played fifth string on the show, essentially a counterpoint and foil to Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huff, Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross, although this season’s series revolves around Edie’s husband and his shady ulterior motives for moving into Wisteria Drive.
There isn’t yet any word on how or even when Sheridan’s character will be written out of the show, but there are murmurings that the character might simply return to Boston – she effectively left the Housewives between seasons 4 and 5, spending the five year narrative gap in the city before returning to the Drive.
Sheridan’s rep insists the split is amicable, saying that she had “a great time on the show” but is now “looking forward to her next character”.
Nicolette Sheridan, we salute you.
