When will Miley Cyrus learn that, as a Disney teen idol, she has no right to do anything even vaguely controversial. After earlier criticism for baring her…back in an Annie Leibovitz photoshoot and having at some point been in a photograph wearing only her underwear, she’s at it again. This time, though, racism is the accusation being levelled at the young irritant star. Apparently a photo has leaked of Cyrus and some of her friends – including one of Asian origin – pulling their eyes sideways. Now, this seems to be a pretty obvious piece of immature joking about, but there’s always someone who takes it too seriously.

This time it’s the OCA, a group which represents Asian interests in America. OCA have done a lot of good works in furthering the integration of Asians into American society, but their reaction is a little over-sensitive. Here’s what they had to say: “The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans. This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent. Not only has Miley Cyrus and the other individuals in the photograph encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans”.

On the other hand, a poll on reveals that 67% of those polled couldn’t give a monkeys. What do you reckon? Wrong or not?

John F. says:

Where in the constitution does it say that you can’t poke fun at anyone? Or where does it say that you cannot not be affronted? All of you liberal cry babies need a lesson in reality. There are times when you need a poke in the eye to get your attention. Wake up! This is America, the land of the free and of free speech as well as
free expression. If some people take these pranks as insults then we are in a truly sad state of affairs.
