Smallville Writers go Robotic
Where to begin with this tumble dryer full of superhero collisions? It appears Spiderman (Tobey Maguire) has caught Smallville writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar in his web to write the screenplay for his remake of the 1985 animated television series Robotech. Fans of the show, who will remember it being largely about gigantic robots borrowed from an alien spaceship, will be even more excited to hear that Maguire (who plans to produce the movie but has yet to cast himself in it) plans to turn it into a live action film.
It will be interesting to see how the show is updated (it was set in the distant future of 1999) but with the Smallville team on board there should be no excuse for not knowing how to handle alien storylines. With Smallville still churning out the series and Maguire set for another outing in Spiderman 4, announced for 2011, what seems logical here is to have a fight off for ultimate supremacy. A 12 round spar between Superman, Spiderman and a bunch of gigantic robots sounds like a great night of cinema. Throw in Christian Bale, the Fantastic Four and some of the X men and we’ve got ourselves a royal rumble.
