Whether you love him or hate him you simply can’t knock some of Ben Stiller’s triumphs. The star of Something About Mary, Zoolander and Meet the Parents now returns as the tamed, friendly lion “Alex” in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, so here are some facts about Stiller that will send you wild:
1. Ironically, a scene in which Stiller played an arrogant director in the movie Get Shorty (1995) was cut short and not used.
2. Diane Keaton is his favourite actress of all time. A slightly sick Hollywood romance on the cards perhaps?
3. One of his most treasured roles is surely appearing for two seconds in the music video “Tribute” by the band Tenacious D. He must have been sure of an Oscar when he walked past the bands studio booth towards the end of the song.
4. Stiller is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, two inches smaller than Something About Mary co star Cameron Diaz.
5. In 2005 he was apparently considered to play the role of “Willy Wonka” in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
6. One of two actors to give William Shatner the middle finger on screen (the other being Kirk Thatcher). Saying that, Mr Spock probably hid a few sneaky ones.
7. Ben’s parents Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller often turn up as cameo appearances in his films. It probably gives fellow actors a good opportunity to Meet the Parents.
8. He Revealed in 2005 that he has bipolar disorder (manic depression). Perhaps he watched Along Came Polly.
9. It was estimated in 2007 that his earnings for the year came in at around $38 million.
10. His schooling included the UCLA School of Theatre, Film, and Television who boast alumni such as James Dean and Tim Robbins.
