Sold?: Hilary is Duff in New Gay Rights Advert

Erm…doesn’t anyone else feel like Hilary Duff is actually the most offensive thing about this advert? Never mind calling something “gay? because it looks crap, isn’t she just the smuggest, most annoying person in the world when she says sanctimoniously, “You know, you really shouldn’t say that.?  Err, and why should we listen to you, Hilary?  Because you’re famous and everyone should do as you say?

The new advert from GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) and the US Advertising Council starring the unnecessarily smiley starlet represents their first national multimedia public service advertising campaign, and a nauseating one it is too.  Fair enough, GLSEN’s 2007 National School Climate Survey’s findings say that almost nine in ten gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender teens report having been verbally hassled in the past school year.  They also state that nearly half have been physically abused because of it- ok, so calling something “gay? isn’t all that great- but there’s no need to be so damn patronising about it.

My alternative ending reads something like this: A maddened Lindsay Lohan pops up from behind the shoe shelf wielding one of Madonna’s gun stilettos.  Incensed by her smugness, she wallops Hilary over the head with it and turns to her as she writhes in pain on the floor, “Knock it off, bender.?  The two other girls begin to passionately make out.  The End.
