Review: Wired leaves you worried
ITV 1, Monday October 13th, 9pm Alert Me
Since money and banks are so topical, this should really have been a good, current drama. However turns out they could be bothered with ‘good’ and just went for ‘average’.
Louise is in banking, in fact she’s just been promoted. Through coincidental and easy means she is coerced into helping some bad guys fleece the bank against her will. She quickly finds herself embroiled in a baddie/money/police mix that endangers her and her daughter’s life.
What the plot offers is detracted from by bland performances and dull dialogue. Hauled along by an overexcited sound track, and foreseeable plot turns, it doesn’t really offer much in the way of tension.
The bad guy is definitely bad. He’s a slimy, charmless, snake who you genuinely hope ends up impaled on something by the end (i’m sure he will), and his girlfriend, who is the one that brought Louise into the whole mess, isn’t much better. Little more than a dirty blonde bimbo whose role is to be exceptionally thick.
Jodie Whittaker as Louise has her work cut out holding it all together and she does an admirable job all things considered. You can’t help but feel that there are some good actors here, trying to do their best but being horribly directed.
A disappointing drama from ITV, not really worth going out of your way to see.
